Role: Assistant Director of Finance
Contract Length: Until June 2025 FTC

Pay Rate to Intermediary: £88,168-£101,677 per annum pro rata
Spinwell is recruiting for an Assistant Director of Finance for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
- This is a key leadership role in the Trust’s Finance Directorate. Responsible for leading, managing and developing all elements of the Trust’s statutory financial reporting processes and mechanisms. In additional leading the strategic development of services within the Trust’s Financial Accounting, Capital Accounting, Cashiers and Treasury Management departments, ensuring the highest professional standards of service are delivered in a controlled and efficient manner.
- Responsible for leading, planning and preparing the Trust’s Annual Accounts which includes but is not limited to, managing year end closedown and external audit of the accounts and working and communicating with significant number of colleagues and stakeholders across the Trust and external to the organisation. Producing financial plans and forecasts to manage the Trust’s Balance Sheet, capital investment and working capital positions, ensuring cash solvency is maintained and ensuring that statutory targets are achieved. Reporting the Trust’s financial position to the Board, Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England and the Integrated Care Board (“ICB”)
- Responsible for supporting the Associate Director of Finance on all capital aspects of strategic financial planning and maximising funding for investment and for engaging with capital programme leads to provide accurate capital reporting and forecasting and providing technical advice to support programme leads.
- This key leadership role provides professional financial support and expert advice with respect to all financial accounting, capital accounting and Treasury matters. The postholder is required to keep updated with any changes in financial legislation, accounting standards and NHS finance regulations and interpreting new and often complex guidance so they can ensure that the Trust complies and advising senior colleagues of the changes and their implications, including but not limited to Board members.
- Responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures in respect of financial and capital accounting, cashiering and treasury management, having interpreted national guidance to ensure the formal accounting policies of the Trust are compliant. In addition to produce an effective cash management operating framework for the organisation.
- To act as lead on Financial Reporting by the Trust by managing, advising and developing Financial Reporting to meet the requirements of key stakeholders both internally and external to the organisation
- To deputise for the Associate Director of Finance - Financial Services both internally and externally as required, on matters of financial accounting, financial reporting and treasury management.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
- Educated to degree level. Full CCAB Qualification.
- 5 GCSE/O levels including Maths and English.
- On-going CPD to maintain qualification.
- Highly developed specialist knowledge in financial accounting acquired through full CCAB/CIMA professional accountancy qualification with extensive relevant post qualification experience gained within a financial accounting role and with experience of supervising and managing staff. On-going CPD to maintain qualification and knowledge of wider NHS environment.
- The jobholder must take responsibility for his/her own personal development by ensuring that Continuous Professional Development remains a priority.
- The jobholder will undertake all mandatory training required for the role. The post holder will also ensure that he/she meets the CPD requirements of their Institute.
- Extensive relevant post qualification experience gained within a senior finance role and with experience of managing staff.
- Extensive experience in providing impartial financial advice and information to multi- disciplinary management teams, covering financial accounting, capital or treasury issues.
- Ability to lead and build teams, coaching and motivating staff both finance and non-finance
